VTScada at Toyota

Driving Efficiency and Sustainability Through SCADA

VTScada software by Trihedral, a Delta Group Company, continues to earn the trust of critical applications around the world. This year, the City of Houston, Texas will complete a massive expansion of its Northeast Water Purification Plant based solely on VTScada. In addition, one of North America’s largest electrical utilities continues to standardize on VTScada, while the world’s longest inland waterway also uses VTScada for its advanced network of locks and bridges.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK), one of the largest manufacturing plants in the world, has used VTScada software for 23 years in Georgetown, Kentucky, and expanded its use to all of its North American facilities, including 11 factories and 25 workstations. Originally, Toyota started adopting VTScada software from Trihedral to monitor their enormous air compressors.

Recently, VTScada has played a significant role in Toyota’s SCADA systems by meeting essential criteria such as real-time monitoring, scalability, and user-friendly design. Its importance lies in enabling Toyota to efficiently implement the Toyota Production System (TPS), enhance resource management, and achieve sustainability goals such as the Toyota 2050 environmental challenge. Toyota quickly decided that VTScada was powerful and flexible enough to monitor all plant utilities, including water/wastewater management, tank farms, and production lighting at its powertrain plant.

The Toyota Production System (TPS) is a manufacturing methodology focused on efficiency, waste reduction, and continuous improvement. It emphasizes the principles of just-in-time delivery, producing only what is needed, when it’s needed. TPS aims to optimize productivity and quality while minimizing resource waste. It underpins Toyota’s success in manufacturing and has influenced global lean production practices across various industries.

Toyota has long been a leader in production efficiency, pioneering ‘just-in-time delivery’ methodologies on its production line. Reliable data collection and logging are crucial to maintaining these standards. By addressing these needs, VTScada helps Toyota streamline operations, optimize energy usage, and support the continuous improvement processes central to its manufacturing philosophy.

VTScada offers the following benefits:

  • Enhanced efficiency – VTScada facilitates Toyota’s production processes by offering real-time data monitoring and control, enabling immediate response to system anomalies. This reduces downtime, enhances workflow precision, and ensures optimal use of resources.
  • Scalability and flexibility – VTScada was designed to handle everything from standalone workstations to enormous, distributed client/server systems of over a million tags. VTScada integrates seamlessly with Toyota’s existing systems, adapting to evolving production demands. Its scalability ensures it can support diverse operations, from small-scale facilities to global supply chains, while maintaining TPS principles of continuous improvement.
  • Support for sustainability – By tracking energy usage and minimizing waste, VTScada supports Toyota’s commitment to its 2050 environmental challenge. It helps align manufacturing processes with sustainable practices, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and resource conservation.

VTScada software supports Toyota with exceptional stability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Its simplicity and flexibility allow seamless integration with diverse hardware and the expansion of monitoring capabilities. The system ensures 24/7 reliability, enhances operational efficiency, and aligns with Toyota’s goals for sustainability and process optimization.
