Trihedral Celebrates 25th Anniversary

In 1983, Trihedral?s president, Glenn Wadden, was working for a control panel manufacturer. ?I looked at the custom software telemetry system they were using and thought that there could be so much more done with a configurable product running on the new class of computers that were becoming available at that time.?

A Different Kind of Company
Based on this idea, Wadden left in 1986 to found Trihedral Engineering Limited in his spare bedroom. Since then, the company has grown to 46 people in Canada, the US and Scotland with a customer base spanning six continents. From the beginning the goals were clear; create an innovative and quality product, make a fair profit and treat customers with respect. Rob Spencer, original co-owner and retired vice-president, helped to set the tone for the company. ?If I saw a customer walking towards me, I never wanted to feel like I had to cross the street,? says Spencer. ?How you treat people is important.?

A Talented Skill-Base
Low employee turnover and high morale have helped to make VTS a technical leader in the field of monitoring & control systems. Trihedral has attracted and maintained a skilled team of engineers and programmers by providing competitive salaries, benefits and stock purchase plan. Employees enjoy a supportive work environment that includes a pool table, summer barbeques and beer and snacks on Fridays. For six years in a row, Trihedral has made the list of top employers in Nova Scotia compiled by the ‘Canada’s Top 100 Employers Guide’ and the Chronicle-Herald newspaper.

Innovation Days
This year, the company began a new tradition. ?Innovation Day? gives every Trihedral employee the chance to dream big and come up with creative solutions that would not be possible within the traditional development process. ?I was so impressed with what people came up with,? says Wadden. ?We have to do this every year.? Many of these ideas, such as QR code support and simpler ways to import graphics have already made it into the soon to be released VTS version 10.1.

A Rare Personal Approach
Employee initiative also allows Trihedral to provide unparalleled support to its customers. ?Since the beginning,? says Wadden, ?we have built our business by providing the kind of personal support that people don?t think exists any more. That gets around.?
