Crandall Engineering Ltd. is a New Brunswick based consulting engineering firm, providing project management and design services for a wide range of project disciplines including: municipal engineering, transportation, land development, rail, water, wastewater treatment and distribution, mechanical and electrical. The firm was founded in 1952 by the late W.H. Crandall, and underwent a name change to Crandall Engineering Ltd. in 1988. As a Senior Electrical/Mechanical Technologist, Dwaine Brewer is responsible for electrical design, control system design, PLC programming, HMI programming, inspections, on site start-ups, and commissioning. He describes why Crandall Engineering chooses VTScada for their projects.
“Our typical projects are for plants/remote sites for water and wastewater systems for various owners. All installations will vary from one to the other but primarily we use Allen Bradley, some Modicon, SCADAPack, and Omron. Radios are licensed frequency and unlicensed frequency, serial and Ethernet.”
“We had used VTScada back when it was called WEB and have just recently begun to use it again because of obsolescence of a previous product we had been using and by the request of clients. We attended training in the main offices in Bedford, Nova Scotia. The ease-of-use and cost of the product is very beneficial to us. VTScada does not require a lot of additional add-ons to form a complete system. VTScada has helped us to increase efficiency with the ability to clone similar project applications and copying screens from job to job. Reporting is easy by using the integrated tools built in VTScada and DDE linking. We usually perform point by point I/O testing and test VTScada at the same time of the PLC logic.”
